i2s straight to Dclass

About

Only 99% perspiration? Edison was an optimist.

My natural tendency is to look at something and wonder if there might be a better way. Rarely does this endear me with industry incumbents, but it does occasionally yield positive results. A jack-of-all-trades, I am drawn to the gaps between well-defined technical disciplines, where the merging of fields may have missed opportunities. Being ‘unburdened with excessive knowledge’ creates opportunities to merge and explore previously rejected ideas in adjacent fields.

Most of the time, the results are comical at best, but every now and then…

THE JOURNEY

2007

Australia announces the phase-out of incandescent light bulbs in 2009. Halogen downlights are exempt due to lack of compatible alternatives.

2008

James creates a new control algorithm allowing LEDs to work with dimmers and transformers.

2009

James successfully lobbies for a new category for Halogen downlights in the Victorian energy saver scheme.

2012

The technology sells around the world, demonstrating superior compatibility and efficacy.

2014

Having ultra fast transient response time, and world leading SNR and THD, the algorithm finds applications in Dclass audio, competing with commercial grade systems at a fraction of the cost and size.

2014

To extend the algorithm to higher voltages and powers, James leads a team to create a novel soft switching algorithm, enabling high switching frequencies into high power inverters in areas such as wind, solar and EVs. A tiny 2kW, 450V inverter running up to 750kHz the size of a rubix cube is entered into the ‘Google little box challenge’, and is demonstrated around the world.

2019

a 200kW, 800V Silicon carbide based 3 phase inverter prototype runs continuously at 100kHz, reducing switching losses by over 80%.

2021

James creates a purely digital in, Dclass out algorithm.

2023

The first mass production i2Dclass chip - the NXIAVA2 - is produced and sold.

Dec 2023

Bluestream releases the world's first PoE Dante 2 channel power amplifier with i2Dclass, the NPA20DA.
